Description:
Greetings to all of our Charity Knitters and Crocheters,
I want to say thank you to everyone who donated yarn and time making things for Exceptional Parents Unlimited. We have received loads of hats and scarves, several blankets, stuffed animals and even a sweater or two.
We would like to invite everyone, knitters, crocheters or just plain interested, to join us at Ancient Pathways on August 25 from 1:00pm to 2:00pm. We have asked Bobbie Coulbourne, Project Coordinator at Exceptional Parents Unlimited, to speak to us about the program and what the donated items will mean to the kids and parents. Refreshments will be served after the talk.
The following is a quote from Bobbie.
“As you know, I have a seventeen-year-old grandson with Down syndrome. Like him, when any child is born with a disability, the family enters a whole new world. Many times even family and close friends don’t come around simply because they don’t know what to say or do. These children don’t receive the same baby gifts that typical babies do because they don’t have visitors. You cannot imagine how much a family appreciates a pair of booties, a cap, a blanket, or any other item, which shows that someone does care for their baby and they are not alone.
Our organization serves families of children of all ages in ten counties in the Central area of California. In Fresno County alone, we serve over two hundred babies and children from birth to three years old at this time. Many of these families have the added burden of poverty and isolation on top of having a child with special needs. We are not disability specific; we serve children with a wide variety of disabilities. Many of them spend a great amount of time in the hospital because of medical needs.”
